| Goals
- Here at tewa kois our main goal is to improve the overall quality of koi
in Australia, we try to do this by improving our koi keeping skills by following
the masters in japan. Using reverse osmosis to create water that is low in tds
coupled with the best filtration and using the best quality koi food is what we
believe to be the key to growing koi faster, bigger and more beautiful. We hope
to be able to grow gosanke koi between 70 to 80cm when they are 5yrs old. This
is far from growing 92cm kohaku in the same time. Achievements
- In our first season of running a fully bakki showered pond with soft water we
have managed to do the following; grow an ogon from 13cm to 41cm ( 28cm growth
in 6 months), a benigoi from 21cm to 47cm ( 26 cm ), a 12 month old kohaku to
35cm, an 18 month old chagoi to 48cm, we have also managed to grow a sanke from
35cm to 52cm. Win 6 awards in our first koi show. Thus we believe that it is capable
to grow a gosanke koi between 52 and 55cm in 18 months ( two full growing seasons).
We hope to be able to grow a 60 to 65cm gosanke in 30 months (three full growing
seasons) and a 70+ cm in 42 months ( 4 full growing seasons, 3.5yrs old). Experiments
- Our current experiment is growing 3 tosai kohaku in a 900L pond that is heated
this winter to see what kind of growth we can achieve with a small tank and very
low tds water. The setup uses 5kg of bacteria house in a shower form, with a turnover
of 2200L per hour. This is to study the effects of heating in winter in small
tanks. The length of the koi as at 25th of may ( 6 months old ) are Koi A 13cm,
Koi B 12cm and Koi C 11 cm. The following photos on the next page were taken on
the 9th of June.
