There are many factors to consider when keeping koi. Factors that must be considered are how many fish you wish to keep and the size of the pond. From our very own experience many hobbyist often start with a small pond thinking that it will be adequate. They are about to fall into koi mania.

What is koi mania?
Koi mania is the obsession that begins when we fall in love with the beautiful colours of the koi, soon we want one of each of the main class and we want higher quality fishes. Then the koi hobbyist gets serious, he sees the many pictures of koi champions from Japan and realises that kois can be beautiful and have a potential to grow up to 1m. With all this in his mind he realises that he needs a bigger pond and filter so that the kois can grow to its full potential. He regrets the money that he has already spent on the existing pond setup.
